1st ANNUAL

Inspire:

Korean American Emerging Artist Competition

Korean American descent. The winning artist, chosen by a juried panel, will receive a cash prize of $3,000 (graciously endowed by Mr. Kew San Chai, a former Board Member of KACS) and will be invited to KACS’ 39th Anniversary Benefit Gala,

Celebrating the Spirit of Service,

on Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Mission Hills Club in Northbrook, IL.

AWARD

1. Cash Prize: $3,000 (the winning artist can elect but is not required to donate the winning art

work to KACS).

2. Award Presentation at KACS’ Annual Benefit Gala.

3. A feature of the artist and artwork in KACS’ Annual Benefit Gala Program and the KACS

website.

4. Two tickets to KACS’ Annual Benefit Gala, which includes drinks and food.

ELIGIBILITY

Participation is open to all U.S. residents of Korean descent (inclusive of bicultural or multicultural

descent as long as Korean is one of them) who are 18 years of age or older.

GUIDELINES

• Only two-dimensional artwork will be accepted.

• This exhibition is open to photography.

• Artwork must have been completed within the last two years.

• Artists can submit up to two pieces.

• Due to space limitations, entries larger than 60" high or wide (measurements include frame)

will not be accepted.

FEE

There is a non-refundable entry fee of $20 payable to Korean American Community Services.

ENTRY FORM

The application must be filled out completely, legibly, and accompanied by the submission and check or

money order.

PROCEDURES

Entries will be juried from CD images or color photos (CD images preferred). A CD containing a high resolution (300 dpi and at least 3 MB but no larger than 5 MB) JPG image or a high quality color print measuring a minimum of 4" x 6" of the artwork will be accepted. Slides are NOT accepted. Entries must be postmarked by May 6, 2011.

The following must accompany the color print or CD:

• Title(s) of the artwork(s)

• Overall dimensions

• Artist’s full name and age

• Entry Form

• $20 entry fee in a check or money order made out to "Korean American Community Services"

• Artist should record his or her full name and title(s) of artwork on the back of the photograph(s)

or on the CD.

Photos or CDs can be returned via mail if a self-addressed stamped envelope containing the correct

postage is included with the submission.

TIMELINE

• May 6, 2011: Submissions are due (must be postmarked by this date).

PREPARATION REQUIREMENTS

The winning entry must be ready for presentation (framed and ready for hanging with glass or plexiglass

and hanging wire).

LIABILITY

Korean American Community Services will exercise all reasonable care with all original artwork.

However, Korean American Community Services, its directors, staff, volunteers, and anyone connected with the contest will not be responsible for loss or damage, including damages made during the mailing process. It is suggested that artists carry their own insurance.

AGREEMENT

Submission of a work shall constitute an agreement to comply with all the conditions set forth in this invitation. The jurors reserve the right to reject any work not accurately represented by the photo or CD image. The decision of the jury is final. • May 13, 2011: Finalists will be notified by May 13.

• May 20, 2011: Finalists will be required to mail, drop-off, or arrange pick up of original artwork for

final adjudication.

• May 27, 2011: A winner will be selected and announced.

• June 10, 2011: The Gala and formal award ceremony take place.
